Oldsmobile Cars for Under $1000
Even though the Oldsmobile was produced primarily by General Motors it was founded by a man named Ransom E. Olds in 1897. About 14 million Oldsmobile cars were produced at the Lansing, Michigan plant. Unfortunately, the vehicle was phased out in 2004. Oldsmobile had been the oldest surviving American automobile marquee and one of the oldest surviving vehicles in the world only behind the Daimler and Peugeot. Oldsmobile became the first brand to be phased out by General Motors in the 21st Century. General Motors later phased out the Pontiac, Saturn, and Hummer brands in 2010.
Early Facts about the Oldsmobile
The Oldsmobile were manufactured by the Oldsmobile Motor Works in Lansing, Michigan by Ransom E. Olds. In 1897 Ransom E. Olds produced 425 cars making it the first high-volume gasoline-powered automobile manufacturer. There for a few years Oldsmobile became the top selling car company in the United States. The last curved dash Oldsmobile was made in 1907. Mr. Olds had financial difficulty and left the company forming a new company called REO Motor Car Company. After Olds sold the plant it was renamed Oldsmobile Motor Works and moved to a new plant in Detroit. The company was ready to do mass production in March of 1901, unfortunately, a worker caused the factory to burn down to the ground losing all the new prototypes. The only survivor was the Oldsmobile that had a curved dash. The new plant was built and the first one out of production had a curved dash. In 1910 the Limited Oldsmobile was made and it sold for $4,600 this was higher than buying a no frills three bedroom houses.
The buyers received all the frills from this vehicle and the Limousine version was priced at $5,800. They only sold 725 Limited Oldsmobile’s but the vehicle was best remembered for winning a race against the famed 20th Century Limited Train. This event was immortalized in the painting “Setting the Pace” by William Hardner Foster. The vehicle is still requested today by many people who enjoy the riding comfort set forth from this vehicle.
