Soichiro Honda, created the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles as well as the world’s largest manufacturer of internal combustion engines measured by volume, producing more than 14 million internal combustion engines each year. Honda has surpassed its competitor Nissan. Honda has now surpassed Chrysler in becoming the sixth largest automotive manufacturer in the world. Honda is known for manufacturing automobiles, motorcycles, scooters, ATVs, Electrical Generators, water pumps, lawn and garden equipment, tillers, outboard motors, robotics, Jets, and Jet Engines.
The Honda Company released a dedicated luxury brand named the Acura in 1986 and the American Consumers have enjoyed the using the vehicle ever since. Their core vehicle has been the motorcycles. The company is well known for making garden equipment, marine engines, personal watercraft and power generators amongst other pieces of equipment. In 1986 Honda became involved with AI or artificial intelligence which is referred to as robotics research. Honda has also ventured into GE Honda Aero Engines in 2004 and the Honda HA-420 Jet. The Honda Jet is scheduled to be released in 2011. The Honda Corporation believes in using alternative fuels and has engaged in the use of compressed natural gas, flexible-fuel, hybrid electric and hydrogen fuel cells in some of their motor driven vehicles.
The very first production vehicle from Honda was the T360 mini pick-up truck. This truck was powered by a small 356 cc straight-4 gasoline engine. The very first car was the S500 sports car. Honda became first well known in the United States for their motorcycles. “Honda” in Japanese means “original field”.
